Aussie rockers Youth Group's cover of 80s synth pop tune Forever Young is so popular out here at the moment that the original by Alphaville is sitting at the number one spot in iTunes most downloaded songs. Why? Well because people like the song I guess, and because the Youth Group cover hasn't been released yet. It is however being flogged to death on commercials for the O.C. on telly and when I asked about it at our local record shop today I was advised that it's only available on the O.C soundtrack. Out of interest (and because it's a damn good song!) I forked out the $1.69 for the Alphville version from iTunes on the weekend. If I'd heard it when I was a synth obsessed teenager I would have loved it, but having heard the Youth Group cover first (and assuming it was an original of theirs) it seems like a cheesy kraut-pop imitation (odd isn't it?). If you like the Youth Group version, check out their other stuff - they're a great band that I've neglected for far too long.
